Early Birds and Tree Peonies

Join ornithologist Celia Lewis on a morning bird walk through the fields, woods and gardens of Linwood. Look for bobolinks in the field, wood thrushes in the woods and northern orioles among the peonies. Extend your stay with a visit to the gardens!

Cost: $15, includes a guided bird walk, coffee and muffins and entry into Tree Peony Festival ($10 value). Cash or check upon arrival.
Deadline for workshop registration:  Saturday, June 2.  Limited to 15.

Materials needed: Appropriate footwear and binoculars if possible

Celia is a field ornithologist and environmental consultant from Guilford, CT. She is the granddaughter of William and Harriet Gratwick, and grew up spending summers on the farm at Linwood.

Encaustic en Plein Aire
 with Kathryn Bevier

 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join Kathryn in this rare and unique opportunity to paint the landscape en plein aire using the encaustic technique of painting with pigmented beeswax. This workshop allows you to be inspired by the beautiful scenery of Linwood Gardens, while also working with a painting style ideal for creating depth and beautiful texture evocative of a natural setting. No experience necessary, as Kathryn will guide you step by step in a variety of easy application processes ideal for the encaustic process. You will not only treasure the experience, but will enjoy creating a true, one of a kind, piece of art. In case of inclement weather the class will have to be cancelled and all monies refunded. 

All materials will be provided including a light lunch and snack.

Bio:
Kathryn earned her BFA at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts.  Up until March of 2015 she was the General Manager and Educator for Enkaustikos, an artist paint manufacturing company in  Rochester, NY. She has traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada to provide learning opportunities, including the National Art Materials Trade Association, Rochester Institute of Technology, College Art Association, The International Encaustic Conference, Savannah College of Art and Design, and numerous national Art Expositions.  
Kathryn now focuses her time on her own art as well as offering ongoing workshops in her private studio at Anderson Arts Building. She is very active in the local Rochester arts community through her involvement with many arts organizations, local colleges and public schools. 

Kathryn’s art is frequently shown at the Memorial Art Gallery Store in Rochester, NY and the Mill Art Center and Gallery in Honeoye Falls, NY, and in her gallery studio since 2000 at Anderson Arts Building Studios in Rochester, NY.

Instructor Angela Amato is an Artist from the Finger Lakes Area of NYS. She has been a teaching Artist for over 25 years and has sold her work both  locally and internationally. Presently she teaches Drawing & Painting at The New Hampshire Institute of Art doing workshops and week long classes. We are fortunate to have her teach this special workshop at Linwood Gardens in August this summer. 

Angela loves Linwood Gardens as a place where people can enjoy the art of drawing and painting together while enjoying the lush nature that Linwood has to offer.   Her workshops encourage being inspired by each other in the lush house and gardens, in an environment that reminds her of being in Italy. Come paint with us.

Bio: Angela Amato has had many years of experience as an artist. She has worked as Artist-in-Residence as a teaching artist in collaboration with The George Eastman Museum and the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, New York. She has won numerous awards and grants. When traveling in Italy, Angela paints daily in the lush Tuscan countryside, living in medieval villas, drinking Italian coffee, and enjoying the local culture. She has lived in Sicily and Rome, and speaks fluent Italian. The Linwood Gardens and property and lovely villa-like home have the beauty of Italy right here in America!
