Linwood Gardens, a private garden, is located in Linwood, New York, 35 miles southwest of Rochester in the farmlands of the Genesee Valley. The original garden landscape was designed in the early 1900s, with an Arts and Crafts style summerhouse, walled gardens with pools and fountains, ornamental trees, and a view of the valley beyond.

The gardens include a distinguished collection of Japanese and American tree peonies featured each spring at the Tree Peony Festival of Flowers. During the summer months, Linwood Gardens offers a peaceful garden sanctuary for workshops, open garden days and wedding ceremonies

Our mission is to preserve the gardens and the tree peony collection for future generations to enjoy.

Summer Event

“All the world’s a stage,” and Shake on the Lake is poised to bring the “players with exits and entrances, playing many parts,” as they bring Shakespeare’s most musical comedy, AS YOU LIKE IT, on tour across Western New York this summer.

AS YOU LIKE IT follows the story of Rosalind, one of Shakespeare’s most savvy and strong protagonists, as she faces an uncertain future after the exile of her royal father by her uncle, the newly installed Duke Frederick. Buoyed by her loving cousin, Celia, and their rascally clown, Touchstone, Rosalind makes the best of her situation, and by chance, catches the eye of a brave young man, Orlando.

After Orlando’s bests the Duke’s champion in a wrestling match, both Orlando and Rosalind must flee to the Forest of Arden to escape the eyre of Duke Frederick, as well as Orlando’s jealous brother, Oliver. The two fear they will never see one another again, not knowing the magic and romance that awaits them in the forest.

Come find out as Shake on the Lake puts it’s fast, fun, and physical-style on display in this comedy about love, longing, nature, cross-dressing, mistaken identity, music, and….wrestling.
